What you need to know

TWO SEPARATE PROCESSES: (1) Food Act registration — apply via FoodTrader (foodtrader.vic.gov.au). Council processes applications within 14 business days. Annual renewal, paid by 31 December. SOT required via FoodTrader at least 1 business day before each event. (2) Mobile Food Van Permit (Local Laws) — required to trade on Council land (parks, streets, footpaths) under Council General Purpose Local Law Part 9, Section 25. Apply via Council website. Permit must be displayed on vehicle on request. Council notified in writing of any changes to business. One-day Local Laws Permit for one-off events: $199 per day (payable directly to Council with permit application). Annual Food Act registration fee (Class 2/3 mobile) unconfirmed — contact Environmental Health on 9688 0200. Covers Footscray, Yarraville, Seddon, Maribyrnong areas. Verified 15 July 2026 — Class 2/3 mobile Food Act fee still not published; Local Laws one-day permit ($199) is the only published figure.
