What you need to know

TWO SEPARATE PROCESSES: (1) Food Act registration — submit Application to Register at forms.ballarat.vic.gov.au/RegisterFoodPremises, then lodge SOTs via FoodTrader for all offsite trading. Contact Environmental Health on 5320 5500 for current Class 2/3 fee schedule. (2) Itinerant Trading Permit — required for any commercial activity on public roads or Council-controlled land (footpaths, roadsides, parks). Apply at ballarat.vic.gov.au/business/mobile-trading. Requires: $20M public liability certificate of currency (confirmed), site plan showing proposed location, vehicle registration details, menu and proposed trading days/times. Contact Local Laws team on 5320 5500. Permit process can take up to 3 months for events. SOT required via FoodTrader at least 1 business day before each event.
