What you need to know
FEES (CONFIRMED, 2026-27 register adopted 17 June 2026): New vehicle — $775 one-off application/design approval (HE2.0) + pro-rata licence fee. Annual renewal — Mobile Food Vehicle = Medium Risk: $810/yr (HE2.2, unchanged). High Risk (catering, childcare, hospitals): $910/yr (HE2.1). Low Risk (B&B, dry bakery): $675/yr (HE2.3). Bona fide charities/NFP: 25% discount. CONTACT COUNCIL FIRST: Before applying, ALWAYS contact Council on (07) 3829 8999 or (07) 3829 8463 (Environmental Health) to check whether additional approvals are required from Planning, Operational Works, Building, or Redland Water teams. Annual expiry: 31 October. Renewal notice emailed 60 days prior. FOOD LICENCE: Mobile food vehicles are licensed with the Council where the vehicle is garaged. One Queensland licence allows trading anywhere in QLD. Council will need to inspect the vehicle when requested. MOBILE VEHICLE DEFINITION: a vehicle propelled by a motor or a food vending machine — the layout does not change, but the premises can move between locations. HOME-BASED FOOD BUSINESS: requires separate application; only low-risk foods considered from domestic kitchen (no potentially hazardous foods).
