What you need to know
TWO SEPARATE APPROVALS required for trading on Council land: (1) Mobile Food Business Licence — required to handle/prepare unpackaged food anywhere. Apply online. Council must decide within 30 days; inspection of premises required before approval. Eat Safe star rating determines renewal fee discount. (2) Brisbane Food Trucks and Coffee Carts Program membership — required to trade on Council-controlled land (road reserves, parks, sports grounds, foreshore areas). Three tiers: Tier 1 = neighbourhood parks/roadside ($471.60/yr); Tier 2 = busier sites with facilities + all Tier 1 ($1,729.20/yr); Tier 3 = all locations including iconic urban destinations + drive-up roadside parking sites ($2,305.60/yr). Sites pre-booked up to 6 weeks in advance via bnefoodtrucksportal.brisbane.qld.gov.au. Program launched July 2025, replacing old single-tier Brisbane Food Trucks initiative (previously $2,130/yr for 13 sites; now 98+ sites). FEE STRUCTURE (2025-26): Mobile licence application (Minor <250m²): $1,005.90. Renewal fees tiered by Eat Safe rating: 5★ $503, 4★ $754.50, 3★ $955.40, 0-2★ $1,005.90. Amendment fee: $295.95. PRIVATE LAND: mobile licence only — no Council land program needed. PUBLIC LAND (parks, road reserves): mobile licence + Council program membership. To propose a new location not in the program: email bnefoodtrucks@brisbane.qld.gov.au. PLI $20M minimum. Vehicle must be fully self-sufficient (water and electricity).
