What you need to know
SOT lead time: applications must be submitted at least 5 working days (~7 calendar days) before trading at any market or event (confirmed from Council website). Annual Food Vendor Licence required. Fee is $220/year (CONFIRMED CURRENT for 2026-27 — Council page updated 19 June 2026), pro-rated monthly from date of application. INSURANCE: policy must total $20M — $10M public liability plus $10M product liability — with Inner West Council named as an interested party and not expiring before the end of the financial year. SECTION 68: operating a food stall or van OUTSIDE a pre-organised market or event requires an additional Section 68 approval via the Activity Application Form, lodged through the online portal as a Building Certification request. Council states permits will NOT be approved in close proximity to Council parks. Apply via the online portal (innerwest.t1cloud.com) — registration required. Licence expires 30 June; a new application must be lodged each year, not a renewal. Renews end of financial year (30 June). IMPORTANT: This licence covers trading at any registered market or event in the Inner West LGA with the organiser permission — it does NOT grant permission to independently trade anywhere in the LGA. One licence per stall. Keep approval letter on-site when trading. Charities and fundraising groups exempt. Contact Regulatory Support on 02 9392 5060. Food Safety Supervisor mandatory. Council also has a draft Mobile Food Vending Policy under development — check innerwest.nsw.gov.au for updates.
