What you need to know
FEES (confirmed 2026-09 from the Mobile Food Trading Guidelines 2026 and the Event Fees and Charges 2026-2027): PUBLIC TRADING PERMIT — $100 application fee, invoiced once assessment is complete, plus $1,250 per year. Pro-rata for less than 12 months, minimum 3 months. The Public Trading Permits web page still lists $99 for the application fee; both 2026 fee documents say $100. PERMITS ARE NOT RENEWED — you lodge a fresh Public Trading Permit application every year. FOOD VENDOR NOTIFICATION — a separate $105 per year, expiring at the end of the calendar year, plus $53.50 per inspection with no more than two expected in a year. Every mobile food vendor needs one, not just those trading at events. FOOD ACT REGISTRATION — held with the local government where your business is based, not with City of Perth unless you garage there. WA food registration does not renew annually. WHERE YOU CAN TRADE: seven pre-approved locations only — Wellington Square, East Perth (7am-7pm, up to 3 vendors); Victoria Gardens, East Perth (7am-7pm, 1 vendor); Mardalup Park, East Perth (7am-7pm, 1 vendor); Russell Square, Northbridge (7am-12am, 2 vendors); JH Abrahams, Crawley (7am-7pm, 2 vendors); Riverside Drive Foreshore (7am-7pm, 1 vendor, coffee vendor preferred); Mounts Bay Road (7am-7pm, 1 vendor). First come, first served, self-managed. Anywhere else needs written consent from the City. No trading within 100 metres of an open bricks and mortar food business. PUBLIC LIABILITY: the Guidelines 2026 require at least $20 million. The general Public Trading Permit page lists a $10 million minimum across all permit types — carry $20 million for a food truck. OTHER CONDITIONS: permits are issued per vehicle and are not transferable between vehicles. Food trucks and trailers only, no stalls. Own power and water, generator no louder than 75dB. Compostable serving ware certified to AS 4736-2006. Delivery apps are not permitted under the program. Assessment within 5 business days once all documents are in. Policy CP 4.4 (August 2024). Trading on private land or at events sits outside this program and has its own requirements.
