What you need to know
FEES (confirmed 2026-09 from the two City of Kwinana 2025/26 fee schedules): FOOD BUSINESS REGISTRATION (includes notification): $87, one-off. THE RECURRING COST IS THE SURVEILLANCE FEE, and it is set by risk tier, not by vehicle type: low risk $174, medium risk $521, high risk $521 with an audited Food Safety Plan or $694 without one. Very low risk is waived. A truck serving hot food is normally medium or high, so budget $521 rather than $174 — ask the council which tier you fall in before you plan around a number. Surveillance fees are charged pro rata by the month after 30 September. TRADING IN PUBLIC PLACES — FOOD VENDORS: Application fee $43. Events/markets only (annual): $100. Designated trading area (6 months): $174. Designated trading area (12 months, includes markets/events): $304. NO TRADING PERMIT FEE AT ALL if your food business is registered with City of Kwinana — the schedule waives markets, events and designated trading areas for local registered businesses, so garaging here removes the permit cost entirely. Expedited service (applications received 3–10 working days before required): additional $174. Applications received 0–2 working days before required date: NOT approved — plan ahead. NFP/community/sporting groups: no trading permit fee for events/markets. HEALTHIER FOOD INITIATIVE: Kwinana designates some trading areas for healthier food/drink vendors only — check Operational Guidelines at kwinana.wa.gov.au for applicable locations. Approved healthier food vendors receive a promotional sticker/certificate. WHAT YOU NEED: Food Business Notification or Registration (from this form if garaging here, or from your garaging council). Email completed form to health@kwinana.wa.gov.au — invoice provided on application, do not email credit card details. Standard processing: 14 business days.
